The All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed 66,400 new members who defected from opposition parties in Jigawa State. The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, addressed the newcomers at a ceremony in the Dutse Mini Stadium, urging them to participate actively in party activities and assuring them of equal rights and opportunities. He attributed the mass defection to citizens’ satisfaction with the APC‑led administration, citing developmental projects in education, health, roads, water and agriculture. Yilwatda emphasized that the APC values participation from all members and offers a sense of belonging to its new entrants.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi presented a comprehensive list of the defectors to Yilwatda, detailing their names, villages, wards and local governments. The defectors came from the main opposition parties—the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC). Governor Namadi pledged to work with all party members to ensure progress and unity, and he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, which he said has contributed to the APC’s growth.
The national chairman expressed confidence that Jigawa State now firmly supports the APC, given the large number of defections. This expansion mirrors a national trend of increasing citizen satisfaction with the administration’s performance. The influx of new members is expected to bolster the APC’s presence in Jigawa ahead of future elections. As the party continues to grow, its leadership has reaffirmed a commitment to providing equal opportunities for all members to engage in party activities, positioning the APC to maintain its stronghold in the state and drive further progress and development in the region.
