A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the party’s national leadership and the Presidency to act swiftly to prevent key members from defecting. Khamis Musa Darazo, a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, voiced concern over reports that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami may leave the party. Darazo warned that Pantami’s departure would be a significant political setback for the APC, both in the North and nationally.
Describing Pantami as an intellectual, reformer, and bridge‑builder, Darazo highlighted his promotion of good governance and his ability to inspire young Nigerians through his knowledge, faith, and integrity. He praised Pantami’s performance as a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting the innovative work he carried out in the communications and digital economy sector, which generated jobs and fostered entrepreneurship.
The APC member cautioned that several influential figures within the party are contemplating leaving, emphasizing the need for leadership intervention to maintain unity and confidence. He argued that losing Pantami would weaken the party’s intellectual base and moral image, potentially discouraging young Nigerians who view him as a role model for integrity and visionary leadership.
Darazo stressed that the APC’s strength lies in unity, inclusion, and visionary leadership, making every loyal member—especially Pantami—crucial to the party’s success. Pantami’s influence extends beyond party lines, and his departure could have significant implications for the APC’s reputation and appeal. As the party navigates this critical period, it remains to be seen whether the leadership will address members’ concerns and prevent further defections, a factor that will likely shape the APC’s future and its ability to maintain a strong presence in Nigerian politics.
