New terrorist group, Wulowulo, emerges in North-Central — Daily Nigerian

A new terrorist group called the Wulowulo has emerged in North‑Central Nigeria, prompting concern from Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule. Intelligence reports indicate that the Wulowulo is a splinter faction of Boko Haram and is active in parts of the North Central region, particularly Kwara State. Governor Sule raised these concerns during an expanded security meeting in Lafia, emphasizing the need for vigilance to prevent extremist elements from infiltrating the state. He noted that insecurity in other parts of the country is a significant issue and that some of these threats are beginning to spread into Nasarawa.

The governor stressed the importance of proactive steps to ensure the Wulowulo group does not gain a foothold in the state. He also mentioned the Lakurawa group, which has become a major problem in Kwara State. Originally active in Kebbi and Sokoto States, the Lakurawa group has now become prominent in Kwara, posing a threat to regional stability. Governor Sule warned that the spread of these extremist groups requires increased efforts to prevent their expansion.

In addition to the emergence of the Wulowulo group, Governor Sule addressed recent violence in the state. He ordered a full‑scale investigation into the killings in Kokona Local Government Area, where seven people died in a land dispute between the Mada and Ninzom communities. He also expressed concern over rising abductions in Lafia and Karu local government areas, urging security agencies to intensify their efforts and adopt new strategies to curb the menace.

The rise of the Wulowulo group and the spread of extremist activities in North‑Central Nigeria highlight the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of insecurity. Governor Sule’s call for vigilance and proactive measures underscores the importance of collaborative efforts among security agencies, community leaders, and citizens to ensure the region’s stability and security.
