Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has been honoured with the 7th ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award at a ceremony held at the British Council in Accra, Ghana. The award recognises his administration’s achievements over the past three years, citing significant progress in public sector leadership and economic reforms.
The event, themed “Leadership, Peace, and Regional Integration: Advancing Africa’s Development in a Changing Global Order,” brought together regional leaders and dignitaries. His Royal Highness Professor Echefuna R.G Onyeabadi, Board of Trustees Chairman of the ZIK Pan-African Award, said the honour aims to recognise individuals making meaningful contributions in service to their people.
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi A. Sule was also recognised at the ceremony for his contributions to public service and sustainable development.
Accepting the award, Governor Lawal dedicated the honour to the people of Zamfara State. “This award is dedicated to all the people of Zamfara State,” he said. “My administration has been working tirelessly to ensure the state can compete with any other in Nigeria. That was our promise, and we have surpassed expectations in just three years.”
The governor outlined key achievements, including urban renewal initiatives and the construction of a modern, state-of-the-art airport — the first such facility in over 30 years since the state’s creation. He also cited strides in security, civil service reform, education, and Healthcare.
“I appreciate the organisers of this annual lecture and award. It means a lot to me and will motivate me to do even more for my people. Zamfara is on the rise,” Lawal added.
The ZIK award, now in its seventh edition, continues to highlight leadership excellence across the continent, emphasising the link between governance, peace, and regional integration as drivers of Africa’s development.
