The leadership of the Ogun State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has announced that it will not endorse the state’s governor, Dapo Abiodun, for reelection in the upcoming polls on March 11, 2023. In a statement released to The on Thursday, which was signed by the party’s state Chairman, Adesina Afolabi, and Publicity Secretary, Ogundimu Aishat, the AAC distanced itself from an endorsement of the governor that was allegedly made by the Intra-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
The statement expressed concern over a post that appeared to be a press release from IPAC in Ogun State, in which certain individuals purportedly endorsed Governor Abiodun for reelection. The AAC firmly stated, “We want to state unequivocally that the AAC is not part of such a charade, as a separate party or as a member of IPAC.” The party emphasized its distinct ideology and principles, asserting that it would not support a governor who, in their view, does not represent a pro-people agenda.
Additionally, the post referenced by our correspondent indicated that a meeting had taken place where a vote of confidence in Abiodun’s administration was allegedly passed, alongside a second-term bid purportedly supported by IPAC and attended by representatives of various political parties. Governor Abiodun is seeking reelection under the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming March 11, 2023 elections.
