The All Progressives Congress governors have called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to engage in dialogue with the Federal Government to resolve their grievances. This appeal was made at the conclusion of a two‑day meeting of the Progressive Governors’ Forum held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from 16 to 17 October 2025. Forum chairman, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, stressed that negotiation is the most effective way to settle disputes in the education sector and urged a return to the dialogue table in the interest of the nation’s education system.
During the forum, governors discussed the need to strengthen coordination among federal, state, and local governments, emphasizing that collaboration is crucial for achieving inclusive development. They highlighted the prolonged dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government, which has been affecting the country’s education sector, and presented the appeal for dialogue as a step toward an amicable resolution. By urging lecturers to resume negotiations, the governors aim to find a mutually beneficial solution that prioritizes the nation’s educational needs.
The meeting also addressed broader issues affecting the country, including education and governance, underscoring the importance of cooperation across all levels of government to meet development goals. As challenges persist in the education sector, stakeholders are expected to watch the governors’ call for dialogue closely. Ongoing efforts to improve coordination among federal, state, and local authorities are anticipated to yield positive results across various sectors, especially education. By promoting collaboration and dialogue, the governors hope to create an environment conducive to inclusive development and to address the pressing issues facing the nation. The next steps in this process will be crucial in determining the outcome of the negotiations between ASUU and the Federal Government.
