Rauf Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 general elections. Aregbesola made this statement during an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, after the commissioning of the state secretariat of the ADC.
According to Aregbesola, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not confident in its strength, which is why it is harassing and intimidating opposition members nationwide. He cited instances of APC’s actions in various states, including Lagos, Kebbi, and Kaduna, as evidence of the party’s insecurity. Aregbesola claimed that the APC’s behavior suggests that it is aware of its unpopularity and that the ADC is poised to capitalize on this.
The former Minister also commented on the recent trend of governors joining the APC, describing them as “enemies of the people.” He reiterated his confidence in the ADC’s ability to take over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria and most states.
In a similar vein, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the immediate past governor of Kwara State who recently defected from the PDP to the ADC, stated that his party is prepared to assume leadership in the country. Ahmed’s statement suggests that the ADC is gearing up to challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 elections.
The ADC’s claims of impending victory come amidst a backdrop of political realignments and defections in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, the ADC’s confidence in its ability to unseat the APC will likely be closely watched by political observers and analysts. The outcome of the elections will depend on various factors, including the performance of the incumbent government, the opposition’s strategy, and voter sentiment.
