Enugu PDP Vows To Win 2027 Elections Despite Defections

APC lacks spirit of democratic sportsmanship - PDP

The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its ability to win all elections in the 2027 general elections, despite recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes after State Governor Peter Mbah, along with executive council members and other political functionaries, defected to the APC last week.

According to Steve Oruruo, the Acting State Chairman of the PDP, the party remains committed to rebuilding and staying united, with many members choosing to stay and others expressing interest in joining. Oruruo reassured the people of Enugu State that the PDP is “very much alive and more resolute than ever” and has begun mobilizing its members to stay motivated and united.

The party has also commenced efforts to galvanize support and attract new members, with a focus on credible conventions and legitimate primaries to select quality candidates. Oruruo emphasized that the PDP is capable of bouncing back in the state, citing examples of other states where governors have defected without weakening the party.

The acting chairman acknowledged that there are minor crises at the national level but expressed confidence in the party’s mechanisms to resolve any issues promptly. He also made it clear that the party does not intend to challenge the recent defections in court.

The Enugu State PDP’s determination to move forward and rebuild is a significant development in the state’s political landscape. As the party looks to the 2027 general elections, its ability to stay united and attract new support will be crucial in determining its success. With its commitment to credible conventions and legitimate primaries, the PDP is positioning itself to emerge stronger and more resilient than ever.
