PDP Board Dismisses Forgery Allegations

Bauchi: PDP clinches Shira council seat as APC boycotts by-election

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees has denied allegations of forgery and signature cloning made by National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, describing them as false and baseless. According to a statement by Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, the allegations were clarified to prevent misleading party members and the public.

The controversy surrounds a correspondence sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the party’s upcoming elective convention. Anyanwu had claimed that his signature was forged on the document. However, Wabara explained that the notification letter was jointly signed by National Chairman Umar Damagum and Anyanwu on August 25 during the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting. The signing was witnessed by party stakeholders, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, and other NEC members.

Wabara further stated that Anyanwu was subsequently inaugurated as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention. In this capacity, Anyanwu co-signed official communications, including letters of appointment to sub-committee members, alongside Sub-Committee Chairman Senator Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State.

The Board of Trustees would have preferred to address internal administrative procedures privately, but the seriousness of the allegations necessitated a public clarification. The party’s elective convention is a significant event, and the allegations could have undermined its legitimacy. By denying the allegations, the Board of Trustees aims to reassure party members and the public of the convention’s integrity. The developments highlight the importance of transparency and accountability within political parties, particularly during critical events like elective conventions.
