The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, said he is willing to form an alliance with any political party or individual that shares the party’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso stressed that any merger or alliance must be built on mutual respect, clear benefits and shared ideals, especially the upliftment of the common man.
Kwankwaso explained that the NNPP is open to collaborating with any entity—including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, or individuals such as Jonathan or Peter Obi—provided they demonstrate competence and integrity. However, he emphasized that the party’s primary concern is improving Nigerians’ lives, and any partnership must prioritize that goal.
The NNPP, which fielded candidates in all states during the 2023 elections, has emerged as a national force capable of influencing the country’s political direction. Kwankwaso noted that he had previously hinted at the possibility of working with the ruling All Progressives Congress, but insisted that such a move must deliver tangible benefits for the NNPP’s structures and candidates.
He also criticized Nigeria’s political elite for neglecting ordinary citizens while enjoying lavish lifestyles in Abuja. Kwankwaso’s comments come amid growing concerns about the nation’s economic and social challenges. A potential alliance between the NNPP and other political entities could have significant implications for Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country navigates its complex terrain, the NNPP’s willingness to collaborate with like‑minded parties and individuals may foster greater cooperation and a stronger focus on addressing the needs of the Nigerian people. With its national presence and commitment to the welfare of the masses, the NNPP is poised to play a key role in shaping the country’s future.
