Insecurity: Kano Assembly Urges Action

The Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to take immediate action to address the escalating insecurity in Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas. This call to action follows an emergency joint motion presented by Dr. Ali Lawan Kiyawa, representing Bagwai/Shanono Constituency, and Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, representing Ghari/Tsanyawa, during a recent plenary session.

Dr. Kiyawa expressed concern over the surge in violent crimes, including killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, in the affected areas. He suggested that the proximity of these local governments to Katsina State, which has also experienced a rise in insecurity, might be a contributing factor to the worsening security situation. The motion highlights the need for the state government to intervene and restore peace in the region.

Contributing to the discussion, Hon. Garba Ya’u Gwarmai emphasized the importance of deploying additional security personnel to the troubled areas. He also advocated for increased funding to the affected local councils, which would enable them to effectively tackle the security challenges. This proposal is seen as a crucial step towards mitigating the impact of insecurity on the local communities.

The Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the security concerns in Bagwai and Shanono. The state government is expected to respond promptly to the assembly’s call, with a focus on strengthening security measures and providing support to the affected communities. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen what specific actions the government will take to restore stability and security in the region.

In recent times, Nigeria has grappled with insecurity, including kidnappings, banditry, and cattle rustling, which have affected various parts of the country. The federal government has launched initiatives aimed at enhancing security, but the situation remains a challenge. The Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution is a testament to the growing concern about insecurity and the need for collective efforts to address this issue.
