Nigerian Singer Oladips Alleges EFCC Collected N10 Million from Him After Arrest

Nigerian singer Oladips has made a startling accusation against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming that the agency collected N10 million from him after his arrest in November 2024. The singer was taken into custody during a midnight raid at his estate, along with some of his neighbors, on allegations of fraud. He was released after spending five days in detention.

In a recent interview on the Trending podcast, Oladips recounted his experience with the EFCC, stating that despite the thorough investigation, no evidence of wrongdoing was found on him. He expressed frustration and disappointment, saying, “Nigeria just happened to me.” The singer described the poor conditions he endured during his detention, including being packed in a crowded cell and served unpalatable food.

Oladips revealed that fellow singer Zlatan Ibile, who is not a close friend, sent him food during his detention due to the poor quality of the meals provided. The singer questioned the rationale behind his detention, given that the EFCC did not find any evidence of fraud or wrongdoing. He also criticized the agency for collecting N10 million from him before his release, asking, “What was the money for? What was all that stress and suffering for?”

When asked if he planned to take action against the EFCC, Oladips seemed resigned, stating, “Who is my father?” implying that he felt powerless against the agency. He reiterated that he was telling the truth and that the EFCC knew he was innocent, having found no evidence against him. The singer’s allegations against the EFCC have raised concerns about the agency’s practices and the treatment of detainees. The incident has also sparked a wider conversation about corruption and the rule of law in Nigeria.
