The All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to make significant gains in Nigeria’s South‑South region, especially in Delta State, in the 2027 general elections. Chief Ayiri Emami, a prominent APC chieftain, says the party’s popularity is rising because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party in Delta consist of disgruntled politicians who lack the clout to win elections. He notes that many Labour Party members are former APC or PDP affiliates dissatisfied with their previous parties, and that the Labour Party’s weak structure will hinder its performance in the upcoming polls.

In contrast, the APC has succeeded in uniting its members in Delta, with at least 80 % of party members working together. Emami stresses the importance of bringing all aggrieved members on board, arguing that every individual is crucial in politics. He expresses confidence in the APC’s prospects in Delta and the broader South‑South, citing the national party’s influence and President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Emami believes the party will perform better in the 2027 governorship and presidential elections than it did in 2023.

A loyal supporter of President Tinubu, Emami praises the president’s commitment to addressing regional issues and his efforts to close loopholes in the petroleum sector. Since Tinubu assumed office, several projects have been launched in the region, demonstrating his dedication to its development. Emami adds that opponents of Tinubu’s presidency were mainly concerned about exposing their shady dealings and being blocked.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the APC’s growing popularity in the South‑South—particularly in Delta State—is expected to have a significant impact on the outcome. With party unity and President Tinubu’s leadership, the APC is well positioned to make notable gains. Its success will depend on maintaining that unity and continuing to address the region’s needs, which will ultimately determine the election results.
