Kwara’s Under-18 team has emerged victorious in the President Bola Tinubu Tournament, defeating Bauchi 8-7 in a penalty shootout after the final match ended goalless in regular time. The tournament, organized by the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria, took place in Katsina and featured 15 states from across the country.
The final match, played at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, was a thrilling encounter with both teams displaying excellent football skills and energetic performances. However, strong defending from both sides ensured that no goals were scored, leading to a tense penalty shootout. Kwara’s victory was met with excitement, and the team was presented with the trophy and gold medals by Katsina’s outgoing Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Aliyu Lawal-Zakari.
The commissioner, joined by leaders from the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria, praised all participating teams for their commitment and resilience throughout the tournament. Bauchi received silver medals, while hosts Katsina claimed bronze after defeating Sokoto by a single goal. The tournament, which began on October 26, brought together teams from Ondo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Gombe, Sokoto, Yobe, Niger, Kogi, the FCT, and Katsina.
