At Sunday service, cleric calls for sincere national effort to address security challenges — Daily Nigerian

The Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja, Rev. Tom Tampatore, urged a collective effort to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges during the church’s 2025 Annual Thanksgiving service. He called on leaders and citizens to acknowledge the reality of the situation and work together to find solutions. His remarks come amid reports that the United States is considering designating Nigeria a “state of particular concern” because of alleged human‑rights abuses and killings. Rev. Tampatore cautioned against reacting defensively to foreign assessments or waiting for external intervention, urging Nigerians instead to look inward and take responsibility for their security challenges.

The pastor emphasized that the country’s insecurity demands honest reflection and coordinated action. Ignoring the realities of violence and human‑rights concerns, he warned, would only deepen national pain. He added that it would be shameful for outsiders to highlight issues that Nigerians themselves refuse to recognize or address. To restore order, peace, and trust across communities, Rev. Tampatore advocated for genuine reforms, improved governance, and collective moral responsibility. He expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its difficulties if citizens and leaders embrace truth, justice, and hard work, and he encouraged worshippers to maintain gratitude and faith even in challenging circumstances. He assured them that positive actions would eventually reshape global perceptions and end negative narratives about the country.

In her remarks, the senior pastor’s wife, Nike Tampatore, also encouraged Nigerians to focus on their blessings rather than difficulties. She noted that despite economic strain, many families continue to experience daily provision, health, and resilience through faith. Mrs. Tampatore prayed for God’s protection over the nation and expressed confidence that better days lie ahead.

The call for collective action to address Nigeria’s security challenges comes at a time when the country faces numerous difficulties, including economic hardship and human‑rights concerns. As the nation moves forward, it remains to be seen whether citizens and leaders will heed the pastor’s appeal to take responsibility for their security and work toward a more peaceful and prosperous future.
