Over 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State have defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). According to a statement by the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the defectors, led by APC woman leader Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, cited the development projects and programs executed by the state government under Governor Yusuf as the reason for their decision.

The Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, welcomed the defectors, assuring them of equal treatment and encouraging them to work together for the party’s progress and the state’s development. The commissioner’s gesture was echoed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Enlightenment, Hajiya Bintoto, who congratulated the new members and promised that the NNPP would provide them with opportunities to contribute to the party’s growth.

The NNPP Chairman of Kibiya Local Government Area, Sabo Abdullahi, expressed his happiness at the influx of new members, attributing it to the governor’s efforts in transforming the state. The mass defection is seen as a significant boost to the NNPP in Kano State, highlighting the party’s growing influence in the region.

The development projects and programs implemented by the state government, which reportedly prompted the defection, are part of Governor Yusuf’s administration’s efforts to improve the lives of citizens in Kano State. The governor’s initiatives have been aimed at addressing various challenges facing the state, including poverty, infrastructure, and human development.

The defection of over 100 APC members to the NNPP in Kano State reflects the ongoing political dynamics in the region. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the move is likely to have implications for the state’s political landscape and the fortunes of the respective parties involved. With the NNPP poised to capitalize on its growing popularity, the party is expected to play a significant role in shaping the state’s political future.
