Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has commended the outcome of the recent local government elections, stating that the loss of three councillorship seats to the opposition out of 274 lends credibility to the polls. The governor made this remark while receiving the 25 newly elected chairmen and their deputies, all from the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Government House in Minna.
The newly elected council leaders had visited the Government House shortly after receiving their certificates of return from the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC). Governor Bago congratulated them and urged them to be magnanimous in victory, extending a hand of fellowship to their opponents. He also charged them to work collectively to ensure effective service delivery at the grassroots, assuring them of his administration’s full support.
The governor directed outgoing chairmen to begin preparations for a smooth transition process, ensuring continuity in local government services. Regarding the Paikoro Local Government issue, he cautioned the party against contempt of court, advising patience until the court delivers its verdict.
APC State Chairman Alhaji Aminu Musa Bobi congratulated the newly elected chairmen and their deputies, commending the governor for his support, which contributed to the party’s success in the elections. The newly elected chairmen, led by ALGON chairman Alhaji Iliyasu Zakari, expressed appreciation for the governor’s support and presented their certificates of return.
Some of the newly elected chairmen outlined their priorities, including women and youth empowerment, education, and other key areas, aiming to bring about transformation in rural communities. The governor’s administration has pledged to support the new council leaders in their efforts to deliver effective services to the people of Niger State. With the transition process underway, the state is poised for continued development and growth at the local level.
