‎FEC approves construction of residences for judges, water projects in FCT — Daily Nigerian

The Federal Executive Council has approved the construction of official residences for key federal court heads and has green‑lit major water and infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory. Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, announced the decisions after a FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

The approved residential projects include the design and construction of homes for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court. According to Wike, work on these residences had already commenced, with consortium arrangements in place to ensure timely delivery.

In addition to the residential developments, the Council approved new water projects to serve satellite towns in the FCT—Karu, Karshi, Orozo, and Bwari. This follows President Tinubu’s earlier inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, which promised to extend services to these towns. The new phase is expected to be completed by May next year.

The FEC also ratified rehabilitation work at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, awarded under emergency procurement. The rehabilitation aims to bring the centre up to international standards, and it has since been inaugurated by the President.

Furthermore, the Council approved a new contract for engineering infrastructure in the Maitama II District of the FCT. The project, covering over 786 hectares, had previously been awarded but never commenced. With the new approval, the government intends to provide the necessary infrastructure to open up the district, much of which has already been allocated.

These approvals demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and services in the FCT. The construction of official residences for key court heads and the expansion of water services to satellite towns are expected to positively impact the region’s development, although the government will need to ensure timely completion and effective utilization of resources.
