ABU Zaria gets infrastructure boost from Mainstream Energy Solutions

Mainstream Energy Solutions, a private power-generating company, has offered to support infrastructure renewal at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. The company’s pledge was disclosed by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar, in a statement. Mainstream Energy Solutions also plans to partner with the institution for its 45th convocation scheduled for January 2026.

The company has committed to upgrading the university’s internal roads, which were constructed in the 1960s and have not been rehabilitated since. The nearly 30 kilometers of internal roads across the university’s two campuses are in a state of disrepair. Additionally, Mainstream Energy Solutions will support the rehabilitation of toilets and improvement of water supply on the campuses. As part of the convocation preparations, the company will renovate the 1,000-seater Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, expressed his appreciation for the company’s long-standing partnership, which began in 2017. He noted that Mainstream Energy Solutions’ interventions have been timely, particularly when the university’s energy costs escalated to an unsustainable N370 million in May 2025. The university is also excited about the company’s plan to replicate a Kainji Dam-model power plant at the Faculty of Engineering, which will enhance practical training and research.

Professor Ahmed commended the company’s decision to take 20 ABU students on a hands-on excursion to the Kainji facility via chartered flight, describing it as a demonstration of belief in the future of Nigerian youths. Mainstream Energy Solutions has set a benchmark for industry-academia collaboration in Nigeria, aligning with national development goals.

The partnership between Mainstream Energy Solutions and Ahmadu Bello University highlights the importance of collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions in driving development and growth. The company’s support for infrastructure renewal and academic programs will have a positive impact on the university and its students. With the convocation scheduled for January 2026, the university is expected to benefit from the company’s support, enhancing its ability to provide quality education and research opportunities.
