Mainstream Energy to upgrade ABU roads, facilities — Daily Nigerian

Mainstream Energy Solutions, a private power‑generating company, has pledged to support infrastructure renewal at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Nigeria. The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar, disclosed the company’s commitment in a statement, noting that Mainstream Energy Solutions will also partner with ABU for its 45th convocation scheduled for January 2026.

The company plans to upgrade the university’s internal roads, which were constructed in the 1960s and have never been rehabilitated. Nearly 30 kilometres of roads across ABU’s two campuses are currently in a state of disrepair. In addition, Mainstream Energy Solutions will fund the rehabilitation of campus toilets and the improvement of water supply. As part of the convocation preparations, the firm will renovate the 1,000‑seat Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed expressed appreciation for the long‑standing partnership, which began in 2017. He highlighted that Mainstream Energy Solutions’ interventions have been timely, especially when the university’s energy costs surged to an unsustainable N370 million in May 2025. The university is also excited about the company’s plan to replicate a Kainji Dam‑model power plant at the Faculty of Engineering, a project that will enhance practical training and research.

Professor Ahmed commended the decision to take 20 ABU students on a hands‑on excursion to the Kainji facility via chartered flight, describing it as a demonstration of belief in the future of Nigerian youths. Mainstream Energy Solutions has set a benchmark for industry‑academia collaboration in Nigeria, aligning with national development goals. This partnership underscores the importance of private‑sector involvement in education, promising a positive impact on ABU’s infrastructure, academic programs, and the quality of education and research opportunities for its students.
