The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun collating the results of the Anambra State governorship election at its headquarters in Awka, the state capital. As the collation proceeds, incumbent governor and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Chukwuma Soludo is leading the race, maintaining a substantial margin in several local government areas (LGAs).
In Awka North LGA, APGA secured 15,895 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) obtained 3,661 votes. Njikoka LGA showed a similar pattern, with APGA winning 22,213 votes against the APC’s 5,687. The trend continues in other LGAs: APGA garnered 35,559 votes in Aguata and 19,818 in Orumba South, each time holding a comfortable lead over the APC, which, although gaining notable votes in some areas, remains behind.
Voter turnout has been relatively high. For example, 25,431 voters were accredited in Anambra East LGA, and 29,323 in Nnewi North LGA. Several LGAs have reported more than 20,000 valid votes, reflecting strong participation across the state.
The election has been largely peaceful, with only minimal incidents reported. International observers and the broader community have been monitoring the process, and their assessments are expected soon. The outcome is crucial, as it will determine Anambra’s next governor. While the state has traditionally been an APGA stronghold, the APC and other parties—including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP)—have been making inroads.
As the collation of results continues, the people of Anambra State await the final announcement, which will test the state’s democratic institutions and shape its future trajectory.
