The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has expressed concern over acts of sabotage along the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway project. During an inspection of the road project on Saturday, Mr. Goronyo urged community leaders to caution residents against such destructive acts. He emphasized the importance of maintenance and prevention of road abuses, citing instances of vandalism, including the removal of iron rods from completed projects.
The Minister noted that the contractor is working diligently on the project, and the road is taking shape. However, he condemned the acts of sabotage, which include breaking road infrastructure, dumping refuse, and laying cables. Mr. Goronyo called on community leaders to educate their people on the importance of preserving the road, given the significant investment made by the Federal Government.
A well-maintained road, according to the Minister, provides safer travel, reduces travel times, prevents accidents, and enhances security. He highlighted the positive impact of the project on security, citing a significant reduction in insecurity cases along the road since the project commenced. Mr. Goronyo appealed to commuters and community leaders to support the administration’s efforts to complete the project and maintain the road in good condition.
The Director of Federal Highways, Federal Ministry of Works, Clement Ogbuagu, accompanied the Minister on the inspection and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work. He noted that the contractor is meeting the agreed-upon timetable and that the quality of work is satisfactory. The road project is considered one of the fastest progressing in Nigeria, with the Ministry employing every necessary effort to ensure its timely completion.
The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway project is a critical infrastructure development initiative aimed at enhancing transportation and economic growth in the region. The Federal Government’s commitment to completing the project is evident, with the Minister and other stakeholders working to address challenges and ensure the project’s successful completion. As the project progresses, the government’s efforts to maintain the road and prevent sabotage will be crucial to its long-term sustainability and benefits to the community.
