Ekiti PDP Leaders Warn Against Tampering with Governorship Primary Results
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State is facing internal turmoil as some leaders have raised concerns over alleged secret attempts to overturn the outcome of the recently concluded governorship primary. The primary, which was conducted transparently and peacefully, produced Dr. Wole Oluyede as the party’s flag bearer. However, certain individuals are reportedly working to alter the results, sparking fears of destabilization and undermining the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.
According to Honorable Deji Ogunsakin, a prominent PDP chieftain, the primaries were conducted credibly by the Ekiti people, but some individuals are plotting to manipulate the results. Ogunsakin cautioned that any attempt to tamper with the outcome could destabilize the party and jeopardize its chances in the election. He emphasized that the people of Ekiti PDP have spoken clearly, choosing Dr. Wole Oluyede as their candidate, and no amount of interference can change that.
The situation has raised concerns among party leaders, with some calling for the national leadership to intervene and uphold the integrity of the process. Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, a former Ekiti PDP Chairman, appealed to party leaders to protect the integrity of the primary election, while Honourable Segun Adekola, a former member of the House of Representatives, reiterated that the people’s choice must be respected.
The emergence of Oluyede as the PDP candidate has been seen as a significant development, with some party members expressing confidence that the PDP is now better positioned to reclaim power in next year’s governorship election. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is reportedly unsettled by Oluyede’s candidacy, with some party members predicting that the PDP will win the election.
The controversy over the alleged attempts to manipulate the results has rekindled old divisions within the state chapter, with party elders and stakeholders calling for the PDP national leadership to step in and prevent another internal crisis. The Ekiti PDP primary was held under tight security and supervision, and party members have described the process as transparent and peaceful. The national leadership’s response to the situation will be crucial in determining the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.
