Rivers: An elected governor can't be removed by proclamation - Amaechi spits fire

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi for urging Nigerians to mobilise against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Party state spokesman Mogaji Seye Oladejo dismissed Amaechi’s remark as “well‑deserved contempt” and a “political hallucination,” questioning how a politician who has been declared “politically non‑grata” could lead such a movement.

Oladejo highlighted that Amaechi was rejected in his home state of Rivers and has lost his political structure, followers and influence there. “A politician who is disowned at home cannot lead a national revolt,” he said, adding, “You cannot lead a national movement when your own backyard has padlocked the gate against you.” The spokesman argued that Amaechi’s lack of support in Rivers makes his call for a nationwide campaign unrealistic and unlikely to be taken seriously by the electorate.

The former minister’s statement appears to be an attempt to remain relevant in national politics after his presidential ambitions were thwarted by a loss in the APC primaries. Since then, Amaechi has been trying to reassert his presence on the national stage, but the APC’s criticism reflects ongoing power struggles within the party. The Lagos State Chapter’s response signals that Amaechi’s comments will not be ignored and that the party is prepared to challenge what it views as unfounded and unrealistic assertions.

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, it remains to be seen how Amaechi’s remarks will be received by the broader Nigerian public and the political establishment.
