The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned of possible disruptions to the upcoming visit of Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle. Party Publicity Secretary Yusuf Idris told journalists in Gusau that some politicians are allegedly hiring armed thugs to sabotage the minister’s homecoming event scheduled for Thursday.
Idris said the APC has made adequate arrangements to receive the minister, who is expected to meet party leaders, members and supporters in both Gusau and his hometown of Maradun. However, the party has received credible information about a plot to attack the minister’s convoy and create chaos along the Gusau–Maradun route, especially near Tsafe.
In response, the APC has urged its members to remain law‑abiding and to refrain from carrying weapons during the visit, warning that firearms could exacerbate the situation. The party also called on security agencies to take note of the alleged plot, arrest anyone attempting to cause unrest and hand them over to law‑enforcement authorities.
The minister’s visit is significant for the state, as it is expected to bring together party leaders and supporters. While the APC assures that necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee the minister’s safety and the event’s success, the reported plot has heightened concerns about the security climate in Zamfara. Security agencies have been urged to stay vigilant and implement all necessary precautions to prevent disruptions.
The APC has appealed to its members to cooperate fully with security forces, ensuring that the event proceeds peacefully and without incident. As the date approaches, the party and security agencies are working together to safeguard the minister’s visit and maintain order throughout the state.
