In a significant development, at least 50 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kibiya Ward in Kano State’s Kibiya Local Government Area have defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). This move was announced by Balarabe Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano.
According to Commissioner Adamu Kibiya of the ministry, the defectors were welcomed into the NNPP due to Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to good governance and development projects. The governor has implemented various initiatives in health, education, infrastructure, empowerment, and agriculture, benefiting the residents of Kano. Commissioner Kibiya encouraged the new members to remain committed to the party, stating that the NNPP would support them in ensuring the administration’s success.
Yakubu Alhaji, speaking on behalf of the defectors, explained that they joined the NNPP in recognition of the party’s dedication to development and good governance under Governor Yusuf’s administration. Auwalu Sarki, the councillor for Kibiya Ward, revealed that additional groups are set to join the NNPP, praising Commissioner Kibiya’s efforts in promoting the party and Governor Yusuf’s policies in the local government area. Sarki attributed the commissioner’s work as instrumental in attracting supporters to the party.
The defection of these APC members to the NNPP highlights the shifting political landscape in Kano State. The NNPP has been gaining momentum in the region, with Governor Yusuf’s administration implementing various development projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents. As the political scene continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how this defection will impact the state’s political dynamics. With more groups expected to join the NNPP, the party’s influence in Kano State is likely to grow, potentially shaping the outcome of future elections.
