A former Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Kwara State, Nigeria, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen. Abubakar Sise, who served as Ward Chairman in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area, was abducted from his home in the early hours of Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers stormed Sise’s compound around midnight, firing gunshots into the air to scare residents. One of Sise’s sons, who was returning home late, was intercepted by the kidnappers and ordered to call his father at gunpoint. Sise then opened the door, and the kidnappers entered, abducting him while leaving other family members unharmed.
The incident was brief, lasting only a few minutes, but was described as terrifying by residents. Bullet shells and live rounds were found scattered around the compound, confirming that several shots had been fired. The local vigilante team in Boriya was immediately alerted and has begun searching the surrounding areas to track the attackers and rescue the victim.
As of now, the whereabouts of Sise remain unknown. The State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, was not aware of the incident when contacted on Friday afternoon but assured that he would investigate. The police are expected to provide more information as the investigation unfolds.
The kidnapping of Sise is the latest incident of its kind in the region, highlighting concerns about security and law enforcement in Nigeria. The authorities face challenges in preventing and responding to such incidents, which can have a significant impact on communities and families.
