The Nigeria Police Force has suspended its plan to enforce a ban on tinted glass, which was originally scheduled to take effect on 2 January 2026, after a court issued an interim order restraining the force from proceeding. The order, identified as suit number HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, was granted on 17 December 2025.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin had announced on 15 December 2025 that enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy would resume as part of the force’s effort to ensure public safety and internal security. However, the court’s interim order has placed the enforcement on hold pending a hearing on the substantive suit or a possible vacation of the order. The police have entered an appearance, raised preliminary objections and applied for the interim order to be set aside. The case has been adjourned to 20 January 2026 for further proceedings.
In compliance with the court order, the Nigeria Police Force has halted nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy. Inspector‑General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun affirmed the force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while carrying out its primary mandate of protecting lives and property. The police will continue to use lawful, intelligence‑driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country.
The police have assured the public that they will communicate further developments and issue clear guidance once the court reaches a determination. The suspension of the tinted‑glass ban, which affects vehicle owners and has broader security implications, will be closely watched.
