Rivers APC Defends Strategy Amid Calls for Wike to Join

The All Progressives Congress (APC) elders’ caucus in Osun State has urged governorship aspirants to delay obtaining nomination forms for the 2026 election. This appeal comes as the party prepares for its governorship primary, scheduled for December 13, 2025, ahead of the state poll on August 8, 2026.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Elder Sola Akinwumi, the caucus announced that it has received a report from its Adhoc Committee on the forthcoming governorship election. The body has subsequently constituted a Screening Committee to evaluate all aspirants within a specified timeframe. The committee’s report will be crucial in determining the next steps for the aspirants.

The APC elders’ caucus has advised the aspirants to exercise patience and wait for the Screening Committee to complete its assignment before obtaining the prescribed nomination forms. This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth and orderly process. The caucus also encouraged party stakeholders to remain committed to the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the election.

About 13 aspirants are currently seeking the party’s ticket, including notable figures such as Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Senator Babajide Omoworare. Other contenders include Dotun Babayemi, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Dr. Peter Babalola, Akin Ogunbiyi, and legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke.

The Osun State governorship election is expected to be highly contested, with the APC being one of the major parties vying for the seat. The party’s primary election will be a crucial step in determining its candidate for the 2026 state poll. As the election season approaches, the APC elders’ caucus is working to ensure a fair and transparent process, and the aspirants are expected to comply with the party’s guidelines and procedures. The outcome of the primary election will be closely watched, as it will set the stage for the main election in August 2026.
