Delegates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have gathered at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, in preparation for the party’s national convention. The event, scheduled to take place from Saturday evening through to Sunday, has drawn delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Upon arrival, delegates were seen adorned in the party’s signature green-white-red colors, taking their respective positions within the stadium. Although the accreditation process has yet to commence, the atmosphere is lively, with posters and billboards prominently displayed throughout the venue. Ambulances are stationed at strategic locations to address any potential emergencies.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Amotekun, the Western Nigeria Security Network, are present both inside and outside the stadium to ensure the safety of attendees and their property. Food vendors and traders are also on site, anticipating a busy period of sales during the convention.
The national convention is a significant event for the PDP, as it aims to strengthen the party’s structure and prepare for future elections. The party has been working to rebuild its base and regain support ahead of the next electoral cycle. The convention’s outcome is expected to have implications for the party’s leadership and direction.
As the event gets underway, delegates will engage in discussions, vote on key issues, and possibly elect new leaders. The PDP’s national convention is being closely watched by political analysts and observers, who are eager to see how the party will navigate its internal dynamics and position itself for success in upcoming elections. With the accreditation process expected to commence soon, the stage is set for a busy and potentially pivotal weekend for the PDP.
