A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Mallam Alwan Hassan, has expressed confidence that his party will emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election, defeating the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Hassan, a former Special Adviser to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made this statement while speaking to journalists in Abuja. He emphasized that the APC is currently bolstering its structures and uniting key political figures in preparation for the upcoming polls.
According to Hassan, it is essential for Kano to realign with the federal government to accelerate development in the state. He asserted, “Just wait and see, APC will take over Kano in 2027.” This statement suggests that the party is gearing up for a strong campaign in the state.
In a separate development, Hassan publicly retracted an earlier allegation that senators had received a $10 million bribe to block the confirmation of Engr. Ramat Abdullahi as chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). He apologized to the National Assembly and its leadership, stating, “I fully retract that statement and offer my sincere apologies.” Hassan urged lawmakers to proceed with confirming Abdullahi, as recommended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The retraction and apology come as a significant development, as they may help to ease tensions and promote a more constructive dialogue between the executive and legislative branches of government. The confirmation of Abdullahi as NERC chairman is still pending, and Hassan’s apology may pave the way for a smoother confirmation process.
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, the APC’s strategy in Kano State will be closely watched. The party’s ability to strengthen its structures and unite key political figures will be crucial in determining its chances of success. Meanwhile, the confirmation of Abdullahi as NERC chairman remains a significant issue, with potential implications for the country’s electricity sector.
