The worst of Boko Haram insurgency is over, says Zulum — Daily Nigerian

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum declared that the security situation in the state has improved markedly, stating that “the worst is over.” He made this assessment during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu in Maiduguri. According to Governor Zulum, the current security landscape shows significant progress compared to the peak of the crisis years ago, despite recent setbacks.

The governor urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely intelligence to help prevent attacks and consolidate peace. He acknowledged that attacks on communities and security forces have occurred, but noted that the frequency and scale of these incidents have diminished over time. Governor Zulum also expressed sympathy for the Nigerian Army’s recent tactical setbacks, praising its officers and soldiers for their bravery and sacrifices, and describing them as national heroes. He reiterated the commitment of the Borno government and its people to stand with the Nigerian Armed Forces and emphasized that the government will not take the military’s sacrifices for granted.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu assured that army headquarters would provide all necessary logistics and resources to troops operating in the state. He commended Governor Zulum for his continued support, thanked him for the visit, and highlighted the importance of the state government’s backing. The Chief of Army Staff also stated that the army has confidence in the society within the theatre of operations and pledged full support to ensure the troops achieve their mission.

The improvement in security and the cooperation between the state government and the military represent significant developments in the ongoing effort to address Borno’s security challenges. As the state moves toward lasting peace, sustained collaboration between government and security agencies will be crucial in consolidating the gains made so far.
