Former Kano State Governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed the Kano State Government’s call for his arrest as baseless and irresponsible. The demand, issued on Friday, alleged that Ganduje made inciting statements and attempted to create an illegal militia in the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje criticized the current administration’s handling of security issues. He pointed to the escalating insecurity in areas such as Bagwai, Shanono and Tsanyawa, where communities have suffered repeated attacks, and argued that the governor’s absence during crises shows a disconnect from the people he serves.
Ganduje stressed that he has never engaged in any activity that undermines peace and stability in Kano State, describing the allegations as a distraction. He urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to concentrate on his constitutional duty of protecting residents rather than indulging in political theatrics and issuing unfounded accusations.
The call for Ganduje’s arrest underscores concerns about the state’s security situation and the current administration’s ability to address these challenges. Ganduje’s response calls for the government to prioritize the safety and well‑being of its citizens instead of pursuing what he characterizes as a politically motivated agenda. The unfolding situation will determine the steps taken to ensure stability and security in Kano State.
