The All Progressives Congress in Kogi State has announced that its primary election for the upcoming local government poll will take place on December 6. This was disclosed by the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, during a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Bello unveiled the schedule of activities for the local government election, assuring aspirants and party supporters of a free, fair, and transparent process. The expression of interest form will cost N500,000, while the nomination form will attract N2 million. However, women and persons with disabilities will only be required to pay for the interest form.
The sale of forms will commence on November 27 and end on December 1 at the State Party Secretariat. Aspirants will then submit their forms on December 2 and 3. The screening and publication of the list of qualified aspirants will take place on December 4, followed by appeals and the release of the final list of aspirants on December 5.
The APC chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding internal democracy and providing a level playing field for all contestants, in line with the timetable released by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission. He emphasized that the party is built on inclusiveness and unity, urging all aspirants to pursue their ambitions without fear or intimidation.
The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission had earlier announced that the local council polls will take place on October 17, 2026. The APC chairman expressed gratitude to the people of Kogi State for their loyalty and support to the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo, pledging to continue delivering democratic dividends across the state.
The party has appealed for calm, unity, and peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process. With the primary election scheduled for December 6, the APC is set to select its candidates for the local government poll, which will take place next year. The party’s commitment to a credible and transparent process is expected to ensure a smooth and peaceful election.
