The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State announced that its primary election for the upcoming local government poll will be held on December 6. The disclosure was made by the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, during a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, on Wednesday. Bello presented the timetable for the local government election and assured aspirants and party supporters that the process will be free, fair, and transparent.

The expression of interest form will cost N500,000, while the nomination form will be priced at N2 million. Women and persons with disabilities, however, will only be required to pay for the expression of interest form. Sales of the forms will begin on November 27 and close on December 1 at the State Party Secretariat. Aspirants must submit their forms on December 2 and 3. The screening and publication of the list of qualified aspirants will occur on December 4, followed by an appeals period and the release of the final list on December 5.

The APC chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy and a level playing field for all contestants, aligning with the timetable released by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC). He emphasized that the party is built on inclusiveness and unity, urging aspirants to pursue their ambitions without fear or intimidation. The KSIEC had earlier announced that the local council polls will take place on October 17, 2026.

Bello expressed gratitude to the people of Kogi State for their loyalty and support to Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration, pledging to continue delivering democratic dividends across the state. The party called for calm, unity, and peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process. With the primary election set for December 6, the APC will select its candidates for the local government poll scheduled for next year, aiming to ensure a smooth and peaceful election through a credible and transparent process.
