Abuja blackout caused by TCN maintenance exercise

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has attributed the current power outage in parts of Abuja to ongoing maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). In a statement released on Monday, AEDC explained that TCN is conducting maintenance at the Katampe Transmission Substation on December 1 and 2, 2025, which has disrupted bulk electricity supply to several areas in the city.

The affected areas include Bwari, Living Faith Church, Dutse Makaranta, Dutse Bokma, Military Pension Board, Jigo Community, Peyi Community, Ushafa, War College Quarters, Sabongari, Law School, and GSS Dutse, among others. Additionally, areas such as Customary Court, part of Jahi, Kado Fish Market, part of Lifecamp, Karmo, part of Idu, Total Marbles, Airy Gas, D&T, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Fed Min of Works and Housing, Mabuchi Village, VIO, Back of AT4, and Kubwa are also experiencing power outages.

The maintenance exercise, according to AEDC, is aimed at enhancing service reliability and improving power supply to the community. The company stated that this effort is part of its continued endeavors to provide better services to its customers. It is worth noting that parts of Abuja have been experiencing darkness since Saturday, November 30, 2025, affecting daily life and activities in the affected areas.

The power outage has significant implications for residents and businesses in the affected areas, highlighting the need for efficient and reliable electricity supply. The maintenance work by TCN is expected to be completed by December 2, 2025, after which power supply is expected to be restored. AEDC has assured its customers that the maintenance exercise is necessary to improve the overall quality of service and minimize future disruptions. As the city awaits the completion of the maintenance work, residents and businesses are advised to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the power outage.
