Zamfara budget proposal targets stability and growth with N861 billion plan

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has presented a proposed budget of N861.3 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. The budget, tagged “Budget of Stability and Growth,” allocates 83% of the total estimate to capital expenditure, amounting to N714 billion, while N147.2 billion is earmarked for recurrent spending, representing 17% of the total.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the capital-heavy budget demonstrates the administration’s commitment to rebuilding infrastructure, strengthening security, revitalizing agriculture, and expanding opportunities for youths. The sectoral allocations include education (N65 billion), health (N87 billion), agriculture (N86 billion), public order and safety (N45 billion), environmental protection (N22 billion), and social protection (N17 billion).

Governor Lawal stated that his administration has worked to restore public trust and reposition key sectors, and the 2026 budget represents the next chapter in this journey. The proposal aligns with the administration’s Six-Point Rescue Agenda, which focuses on strengthening security, modernizing agriculture, upgrading healthcare, expanding access to quality education, accelerating infrastructure renewal, and empowering women, youths, and vulnerable groups.

The governor justified the recurrent expenditure benchmark, stating that the state remains within global standards for prudent public finance management. He emphasized that the ambitious capital plan requires political will and continued cooperation of the State Assembly. Lawal urged lawmakers to give the proposal careful consideration and timely approval, describing it as “a contract with the people and a declaration that Zamfara State will rise stronger, more united and more determined than ever before.”

The proposed budget is expected to play a crucial role in the state’s development, with a focus on transformation and renewed growth. The governor’s administration has been working to address the state’s challenges, and the budget is seen as a key step towards achieving its goals. The State House of Assembly will review the proposal and make a decision on its approval.
