The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up caretaker committees in Lagos and Ekiti states to oversee the party’s affairs. According to a statement by Umar Bature, the party’s National Organizing Secretary, the Lagos committee is chaired by Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi, with Chief Adele Bankole serving as Vice‑Chairman. The 17‑member body includes Mrs. Akinro Bolaji Rosaline, Mrs. Adebimpe Maria and Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke. Their mandate, outlined in Section 21(2)(a‑b) of the PDP constitution, is to run the party’s affairs in the state for one month or until a new executive is elected. The committee must adhere strictly to the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), the Electoral Act (2010) and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended). Party leaders have expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to fulfill its duties effectively.
A similar caretaker committee has been constituted in Ekiti State, chaired by Omolashe Lanre. Its members include Femi Philips, Gani Bakare and Akande Babatunde, among others. Like its Lagos counterpart, the Ekiti committee is tasked with managing the party’s affairs, upholding the party’s constitution and complying with relevant laws.
The establishment of these caretaker committees marks a significant step in the PDP’s effort to reorganize and strengthen its presence in both states. As the party navigates internal dynamics, the success of the committees will be crucial for restoring stability and cohesion within its ranks. With the committees in place, the PDP is poised to move forward with rebuilding and preparing for future elections, while party leadership closely monitors progress to ensure a smooth transition and a solid foundation for future growth.
