Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has revealed that his administration spent approximately N100 billion on security interventions in 2022, aimed at stabilizing communities affected by insurgency and criminal attacks. The governor made this disclosure during a condolence visit to the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, following a series of recent attacks in the Askira/Uba axis of the state.
The visit was an opportunity for the governor to sympathize with the people and assess the current security situation, with a view to identifying immediate and long-term solutions. Governor Zulum commended the collaboration between security agencies and community members, which led to the successful rescue of 12 abducted female farmers. He emphasized the importance of such cooperation in restoring peace in the region.
The governor expressed concern about the impact of insecurity on development projects, citing the reluctance of contractors to work in certain areas due to persistent threats. This, he noted, has slowed down the reconstruction of key infrastructure, including major roads. To address this challenge, the government has established a quarry site in Gwoza and procured 100 trucks to enable the state’s Road Maintenance Agency to undertake direct construction and rehabilitation works.
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing transformative infrastructure for the people of Askira/Uba, including a new tertiary institution, a computer institute, a JAMB centre, a hospital, roads, and other social amenities. He stated that the government would intensify collaboration with security operatives to further strengthen safety in the region.
The Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, expressed gratitude to the governor for the visit and for the numerous development projects across the state. The monarch acknowledged the governor’s efforts, saying that the community would have suffered more without his interventions. Governor Zulum’s administration has been working to address the security challenges in Borno State, and the recent expenditure on security interventions underscores the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. The governor’s visit to the Emir of Uba highlights the importance of community engagement and collaboration in addressing the security challenges facing the state.
