PDP Chairman Defects to APC in Zamfara State

Zamfara PDP chairman defects to APC, declares party ‘dead’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has officially welcomed the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Sadiq Abubakar, who has defected to the ruling party. This development was confirmed by the APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, in a statement issued on Monday in Gusau.

According to Idris, Abubakar’s defection is a significant development that reflects the growing strength and popularity of the APC in the state. Abubakar had announced his exit from the PDP on Sunday, citing the party’s weakness and internal crises at the national level as reasons for his decision. He was received by the former state APC Chairman, Lawal Liman, and the Kaura Namoda APC chairman, Alhaji Sule Gabake, at the APC Secretariat in Kaura Namoda.

Liman assured Abubakar and other defectors of fair treatment, emphasizing the APC’s commitment to peace, stability, and progress under the leadership of Senator AbdulAziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The defection is seen as a boost to the APC in Zamfara State, which has been working to strengthen its presence in the region.

The PDP has been facing internal challenges and divisions, which have affected its performance in recent elections. The APC, on the other hand, has been gaining ground in the state, with several high-profile defections in recent months. Abubakar’s decision to join the APC is likely to be seen as a significant blow to the PDP’s chances in future elections.

The development is also expected to have implications for the political landscape in Zamfara State, where the APC is seeking to consolidate its power and influence. With the 2023 general elections approaching, the APC will be looking to build on its momentum and strengthen its position in the state. The defection of high-profile politicians like Abubakar is likely to be a key factor in the party’s strategy to achieve this goal.
