NNPP lawmakers deny plans to dump party, pledge loyalty to Kwankwasiya movement

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is gearing up for the 2027 general elections, and its national chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed rumors of secret talks with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency. Dr. Ahmed clarified that the party’s national leader is not engaged in any discussions with the President and that the NNPP’s focus remains on preparing for the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that the outcome of the 2027 elections in Kano will be decided by the people, not through political alliances. Confident in the party’s strengths and plans, Dr. Ahmed said the NNPP does not need to join forces with the All Progressives Congress (APC); in fact, aligning with the APC would guarantee the NNPP’s failure in Kano. The party aims to expand its presence nationwide and position itself as a strong contender for the presidency in 2027. Aside from the APC, Dr. Ahmed noted that the NNPP is the only party with a solid structure across all states and local governments.

The NNPP remains open to any aspirant who wishes to contest its presidential ticket. While acknowledging Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s influence, Dr. Ahmed stated that the party’s National Working Committee will ultimately make the decisions. Regarding the crises faced by opposition parties, he does not blame the APC but attributes the instability to internal weaknesses within the parties themselves. He argued that if parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party were united, they would be resistant to external interference.

Looking ahead, Dr. Ahmed expressed uncertainty about the future of the PDP and Labour Party, while the NNPP prefers to work quietly and focus on its preparations. He emphasized that the party’s silence is a deliberate strategy, more productive than being “noisy for all the wrong reasons.” Dr. Ahmed warned that when the NNPP finally unveils its plans, critics will be surprised, and he will be able to say, “I told you so.”

As the 2027 general elections approach, the NNPP’s preparations and strategy will be closely watched. With its focus on building a strong nationwide structure and contesting the presidency, the party is poised to play a significant role in the upcoming elections.
