Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo praised President Bola Tinubu’s substantial contributions to the development of Rivers State and the South‑South region. He made the remarks while flag‑offing the 7 km Ipo Town–Airport Bypass and commissioning the reconstructed Ikwerre Road–Igwuruta–Airport Road Corridor, projects undertaken by the Rivers State Government. Keyamo thanked President Tinubu for numerous interventions that have helped align all South‑South states with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the ceremony, Keyamo formally welcomed Governor Siminalayi Fubara into the APC, describing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a major development. He noted that the governor’s entry into the APC represents a loss of a key figure for the opposition, dealing a significant blow to the PDP. Governor Fubara had earlier announced his intention to join the APC as a gesture of appreciation to President Tinubu, whom he credited with supporting his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
The governor’s defection is viewed as a strategic move, given Rivers State’s traditional role as a key player in national politics. The state’s alignment with the APC is expected to have considerable implications for the region’s political dynamics. The reconstruction of the Ikwerre Road–Igwuruta–Airport Road Corridor and the construction of the Ipo Town–Airport Bypass form part of the state government’s broader effort to improve infrastructure and stimulate economic development.
Governor Fubara’s official reception into the APC was witnessed by Keyamo at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where the governor received his APC membership card from party leadership. This development is likely to have far‑reaching consequences for the political landscape of Rivers State and the South‑South region, and stakeholders and analysts will closely monitor its impact as the area continues to evolve politically.
