Insurgency: Islamic Scholar Urges Tinubu to Act Fast

A prominent Islamic scholar in Ibadan, Mallam Ali Temitope Abdulssalam, has urged the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to investigate and address the root causes of insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, and ritual killings in Nigeria. Abdulssalam emphasized the need for swift action to restore public confidence in the government.

Speaking at the fifth graduation ceremony of the Ali Institute for Qur’an Memorisation in Ibadan, Abdulssalam stressed that tackling these security challenges is crucial for Nigeria’s progress. The event was attended by notable figures, including the wife of a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Professor Hamdalat Olaniyan, and the Agbaoye of Ibadanland, Alhaji Kola Karim, who was represented by Alhaji Yinka Karim.

As the director of the institute, Abdulssalam highlighted the importance of supporting Islamic knowledge centers, which can help raise future leaders who are God-fearing, patriotic, and free from vices such as tribalism and terrorism. He believes that individuals with a balanced understanding of the Qur’an and Islamic values are less likely to engage in social vices.

Abdulssalam called on the government to provide funding and support for Qur’an and Islamic knowledge centers, emphasizing the need for a balanced education that includes the teaching of virtues and morals. He also encouraged the government to create an enabling environment for the promotion of good values and to incentivize individuals who demonstrate positive behavior.

The Agbaoye of Ibadanland, represented by Alhaji Yinka Karim, urged the graduands to be good ambassadors and to reflect their character in their actions at all times. The ceremony marked an important milestone for the institute, which aims to promote Islamic knowledge and values in Nigeria.

The federal government’s response to the security challenges facing the country will be crucial in restoring public confidence and ensuring Nigeria’s progress. As Abdulssalam emphasized, addressing the root causes of insurgency, banditry, and other security issues is essential for creating a safer and more stable environment for all Nigerians.
