Vice President attends Chief of Army Staff conference in Lagos

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Lagos State to attend the 2025 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference, where he is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour. Upon arrival, the Vice President was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior government officials.

At the conference venue, Governor Sanwo-Olu was welcomed by top military commanders, while the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, joined other service chiefs and exchanged pleasantries with former colleagues. According to Stanley Nkwocha, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the Vice President inspected a military guard of honour, following established protocol for distinguished guests.

The annual conference is themed ‘Examining the Current Landscape of Terrorism Through the Lenses of Diplomatic and Military Action Strategy for Long-term Prevention and Stabilisation’, with a focus on developing comprehensive approaches to address security challenges through coordinated diplomatic and military efforts. The programme also features the presentation of a book titled ‘A Life of Service’, written in honour of the 23rd Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The conference brings together key stakeholders to discuss and strategize on tackling terrorism and insecurity, with the aim of achieving long-term prevention and stabilisation. The event highlights the importance of collaboration between military and diplomatic efforts in addressing security challenges. As the conference progresses, attendees are expected to engage in meaningful discussions and share insights on effective strategies for combating terrorism and promoting regional stability.
