The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has dismissed claims made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent visit to the Dansadau Emirate in Maru Local Government Area. According to a statement by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, the APC’s assertions are false and misleading.
The PDP expressed dismay at the APC’s press release, which it described as fiction. In contrast, the PDP stated that Governor Lawal received a warm welcome from the Emir of Dansadau, the Emirate Council, and local residents during his visit. The governor’s trip was marked by a large turnout of people from communities along the 107-kilometre Gusau-Dansadau road, which made the journey take several hours.
The PDP noted that the Emir of Dansadau conferred a traditional title, ‘Garkuwan Dansadau,’ on Governor Lawal, indicating the respect and acceptance he enjoys among the people. The party also highlighted that Dansadau had been neglected for almost 10 years under APC-led governments, with no sitting governor visiting the area during that period. Governor Lawal’s visit aimed to address this neglect by listening to residents’ concerns and flagging off the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road project.
The road project is expected to improve security, boost economic activities, and facilitate the transportation of farm produce, benefiting the local farming community. The PDP condemned an incident involving the lawmaker representing Maru South, Hon. Kabiru Mikailu Dangulbi, and blamed desperate APC elements for attempting to embarrass the lawmaker and damage the governor’s image. The matter has been reported to the relevant security agencies, and investigations are ongoing.
The PDP urged the APC to allow the law to take its course, rather than attempting to politicize the issue. The party’s response underscores the ongoing political tensions in Zamfara State, where the PDP and APC have been engaging in a war of words over various issues. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the APC will respond to the PDP’s assertions and how the incident will impact the political landscape in the state.
