The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) claim that Governor Dauda Lawal visited the Dansadau Emirate in Maru Local Government Area. In a statement, PDP Publicity Secretary Halliru Andi called the APC’s assertions false and misleading, describing the party’s press release as “fiction.”
According to the PDP, Governor Lawal received a warm welcome from the Emir of Dansadau, the Emirate Council and local residents. The visit attracted a large turnout from communities along the 107‑kilometre Gusau‑Dansadau road, which extended the journey to several hours. During the visit, the Emir conferred the traditional title “Garkuwan Dansadau” on the governor, signalling the respect and acceptance he enjoys among the people.
The PDP also highlighted that Dansadau had been neglected for almost ten years under APC‑led governments, with no sitting governor visiting the area during that period. Governor Lawal’s trip was intended to address this neglect by listening to residents’ concerns and flagging off the Gusau‑Magami‑Dansadau road project. The new road is expected to improve security, boost economic activity and facilitate the transport of farm produce, benefiting the local farming community.
The party condemned an incident involving Maru South lawmaker Hon. Kabiru Mikailu Dangulbi, blaming “desperate APC elements” for trying to embarrass the lawmaker and damage the governor’s image. The matter has been reported to the relevant security agencies and investigations are ongoing.
The PDP urged the APC to allow the legal process to run its course rather than politicising the issue. This response underscores the ongoing political tensions in Zamfara State, where the PDP and APC continue a war of words over various matters. How the APC will react to the PDP’s assertions and the impact on the state’s political landscape remain to be seen.
