Borno State brother of Governor Babagana Zulum, Dr Kaumi Zulum, has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Dikwa/Konduga/Mafa Federal Constituency after emerging unopposed in the party’s primary election held in Maiduguri.
Prophet Jones Erue, chair of the APC Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, announced the result on Sunday, adding that the primary for the neighboring Mobbar/Guzamala/Abadam/Kukawa Federal Constituency was won by Fati Alkali.
The primaries also produced the following APC candidates: Usman Zannah for Magumeri/Kaga/Gubio, Ahmed Jaha for Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa, Satomi Ahmed for Jere, Abdulkadir Rahis for Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (securing 38,576 votes), and Mustapha Abdullahi for Bama/Ngala/Kala Balge (with 20,509 votes).
The contest in the Askira/Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency was declared inconclusive after an aspirant, Audu Zali, filed a complaint. Erue indicated that the committee will await the appeal panel’s report before releasing a final decision for that seat.
Erue noted that the primaries proceeded peacefully in nine of the state’s ten federal constituencies, with most candidacies settled through consensus agreements among party stakeholders.
The outcomes set the stage for the APC’s slate in the upcoming national elections, positioning the party’s candidates for a decisive battle in Borno’s diverse electoral landscape. The finalisation of the Askira/Uba/Hawul ticket will complete the party’s full roster for the state.
