Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Kunle Olatunji, has described the outcome of the Osun State governorship election as a preview of the 2027 general Elections, declaring that the result demonstrates the supremacy of the electorate’s will over political influence.
In a statement released to Media Talk Africa, Olatunji reacted to the victory of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party and was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Olatunji said the election outcome proved that no amount of intimidation or influence can permanently suppress the collective decision of the people.
He characterized the result as a significant morale booster for the electorate ahead of the next general election cycle and congratulated Adeleke on his win. Olatunji framed the Osun poll as a wake-up call to political office holders, emphasizing that citizens possess the constitutional power to determine their leaders through the ballot.
“The Osun election is a morale booster for many emerging political leaders and genuine democrats who believe that strong connection with the electorate, fulfilment of electoral promises, empathy, commitment to quality leadership, strategic positioning and credible engagement with the people remain critical to electoral success,” Olatunji stated.
He added that Nigerian voters are increasingly recognizing the power of their votes and the importance of active participation in the democratic process. “The message from Osun is clear: the people have the power, and when they collectively decide, no amount of money, influence or political might can permanently suppress their will,” he said.
The ADP candidate’s remarks reflect a broader narrative among opposition figures who view the Osun outcome as evidence of shifting political dynamics.
