The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed its earlier opposition to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now welcomes him to the party, pledging support for his new political journey. Initially, the state APC vehemently opposed Mutfwang’s potential membership; party elders, the women’s wing, and youth organizations publicly expressed their disapproval.
Following the governor’s official defection announcement on Thursday, the party’s stance shifted. APC Publicity Secretary Shittu Bamaiyi, who had previously spoken against Mutfwang’s joining, now describes the defection as a significant asset to the APC. In an interview, Bamaiyi emphasized that the party is committed to providing Mutfwang with the necessary support to succeed, noting that joining a political party is a fundamental right of every Nigerian citizen. He acknowledged that while some individuals may be displeased with the governor’s decision, others are pleased to see him join an inclusive party that welcomes all eligible Nigerians.
The APC spokesperson added that Mutfwang’s experience in party politics will serve him well in his new role and expressed confidence that he will work collaboratively with all members.
