Traditional rulers from the 62 communities in Eti‑Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State have pledged their support for Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu’s re‑election ahead of the March 11 governorship election. At a news conference in Ikota, Chief Wasiu Ali‑Balogun, Chairman of the Eti‑Osa Baale Forum, affirmed that the governor has been fulfilling his promises to Lagos residents, which underpins their backing.
Ali‑Balogun noted numerous irregularities in the February 25 presidential election and said security would be strengthened to ensure safety during the upcoming governorship vote. He urged Eti‑Osa residents to set aside the presidential election’s outcome and turn out in large numbers to vote for the All Progressives Congress candidates. “Our incumbent governor is an anointed, reliable, responsible, hardworking, and listening leader. We stand firmly behind him and the current administration up to the federal level,” he declared.
He acknowledged the irregularities of the presidential election but emphasized the need to correct perceptions: “Elections will come and go, but the Eti‑Osa Baale Forum will endure.” Ali‑Balogun praised the governor’s achievements, especially his recognition of Baales across Lagos State, and called on those dissatisfied with the previous election’s results to forget the past and focus on the future. “We must appeal to everyone to move beyond what happened during past elections, particularly because of Governor Sanwo‑Olu,” he said.
The chairman appealed to residents to mobilise family, friends, neighbours and the wider community to vote en‑masse for the governor on Saturday. “Sanwo‑Olu seeks peace and progress for Eti‑Osa, Lagos State, the country, and the world. By God’s grace, he will celebrate his return to office for a second term on Sunday,” he proclaimed. He added that, regardless of political rules, the endorsement of continuity was essential and congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory, describing it as a win for everyone.
Also speaking, the Baale of Ikota, Nasiru Laguda, affirmed that Eti‑Osa’s traditional rulers and residents are united behind Sanwo‑Olu’s re‑election and will work to ensure his victory. “There is no place without friends, neighbours, and colleagues. I urge all Baales to return home and devise strategies for us all,” he said. “This is not a matter of conflict; we must call on our neighbours, children, and community members to vote en‑masse for Sanwo‑Olu. If we turn out together, we will deliver for the community. Let our families be present at the polls and cast their votes for Sanwo‑Olu’s re‑election.”
