The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has dismissed allegations of a terrorist group operating in the town, describing the claims as false and unfounded. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch attributed the reports to enemies seeking to undermine the town’s security structure and religious harmony.
The statement comes in response to the reported invitation and arrest of Sheik Dahood Imran Molaasan, leader of Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of terrorism. Oba Akanbi emphasized that Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria, with a long-standing reputation for peace and safety.
The monarch defended Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, describing it as a reputable organization that contributes to national security and academic development. The group operates over 40 schools, including a private College of Education and orphanage homes, and has been in existence for over two decades. Its security arm has played a significant role in maintaining law and order in Iwoland, helping to sustain peace across the town and its environs.
Oba Akanbi noted that the achievements of the group in education and security informed his decision to honor Sheik Dahood Imran Molaasan with the title of Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta. He warned that individuals spreading false information are tantamount to social media terrorists and bandits, and threatened to take legal action against those involved.
The monarch also highlighted the critical role of the Jaysu Security Network in maintaining law and order in Iwo. The network works directly with the Nigerian Police Force and has assisted in the arrest of hardened criminals. Oba Akanbi has initiated measures to arrest individuals peddling rumors aimed at discrediting the town’s peaceful reputation.
The allegations of terrorism in Iwo have been met with concern, but the monarch’s statement aims to reassure the public of the town’s commitment to peace and security. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to the allegations and the monarch’s assertions. For now, Oba Akanbi’s statement serves as a strong rebuttal to the claims, emphasizing Iwo’s reputation as a peaceful and secure town.
